About TABLE

Field Test

TABLE was field tested in 33 Head Start programs, in Regions I-XI during the Winter of 2009 and Spring of 2010. CDI staff recruited Head Start programs from these regions to participate in the pilot study of the TABLE materials and training. In consultation with the Office of Head Start and regional contacts, CDI selected one state per region. In each selected state, a list of eligible programs was compiled and three randomly selected programs were recruited to participate in the study. In addition, to be eligible for the pilot study, programs had to have their CACFP audit scheduled between May 2010 and May 2011 (so that CACFP audit results could be included among the outcomes studied).

Within each state, one program was randomly assigned to each of the following groups:

  • TABLE Materials Plus Training Group that received the TABLE CACFP records management system and the two-day training in its use
  • TABLE Materials Only Group that received the TABLE CACFP records management system but no training
  • TABLE Control Group that received the TABLE CACFP records management system at the conclusion of the study
